Flavor and fun at Fabrica Kreaton in Komotini

Once arrived in Komotini, a small city from Northern Greece, we were invited to dinner in a restaurant recommended by the Greek locals, and I was sure this should be, as usually, a traditional tavern with delicious regional dishes. But, once arrived at the entrance of Fabrica Kreaton, I discovered a modern space in a ’50 building, a mix of industrial design with modernist kitchen style and warm, charming Greek fabrics in seat cushions and in the pendant light fixtures, reflecting the folkloric Greek skirt.

The theme created by Minas Kosmidis as “The Butcher Shop” is illustrated by a lot of funny details: big butcher knives stuck in wooden bar height tables surrounded by cow print covered stools, refrigerator-like cases that hold raw meat suspended like trophies on display (but it’s not raw meat, just very accurate cardboard prints) or white strong metal butcher hooks on the walls playing the role of hangers among cow portraits. Ah, of course, the waiters are dressed in white butcher robes 🙂

At the first sight seems very manly and stimulating the meat eater’s masculinity but the colorful details show that Fabrica Kreaton is a great blend of fun and flavor where bold design elements are made for big gestures supporting and enhancing the underlying theme. All in all, the food is delicious, the space is eclectic, the atmosphere is cool, the people are nice, so it’s a great place to meat and greet!

I liked it a lot and enjoyed leisurely this mixture of smart contemporary design, good food, strong wine and recommend you to try and taste when visiting Komotini.
